So, they look like that, their musical instruments consist of one acoustic guitar and a backing track, and they have songs like "Diana 2.0" whereby the long-deceased Peoples' Princess is exhumed by our masked heroes and robotically revived in order to sort out the problems of the world, and "We Killed Everyone At Radio 1" - self-explanatory, really, although the graphic mental image of Chris Moyles nailed to a cross is one I am saving for when I need cheering up. I'm sat with a couple of members of Politburo and between us we have seen thousands upon thousands of no-mark four-man guitar bands peddling interchangeable chunky riffs and high-fly-sky lyrics; we could write that stuff in our sleep, which is why the world needs the likes of The Plague Doctors. The words may be sometimes daft but they're genuinely funny; elsewhere tracks like the doo-wop-ish "Candy Baby" and perfect pop of "Give Me A Reason" showcase a talent for writing brilliantly catchy songs. You can be miserable as anything and go and watch the Plague Doctors and they'll leave you smiling. And isn't that really one of the best aims a band can have?
